Haridwar is not Delhi. It is neither Calcutta, nor Kanpur-Nine Eda nor is there any such industrial city. Haridwar is considered, known and recognized all over the world purely as Mayapuri i.e. domicile of Adishakti Bhagwati Mahamaya, Haridwar i.e. the gate of Lord Shri Badrinarayan, Haridwar i.e. the gate of Lord Shiva in Kedar form and Gangadwar i.e. the gateway of Vishnupriya Maa Ganga.

In the dazzle of industrialization and materialism, Haridwar is also flourishing with a see-saw imitation ideology of developing it like industrial cities like Calcutta-Kanpur. Whereas the nature of Haridwar, its cultural history and environment is different from this and its importance is something unique.

The deteriorating religious, spiritual and cultural character of Haridwar means the erosion of Indian values, traditions, legends and glorious cultural heritage. Haridwar is a combination of mountains and plains in geography, which makes its shade unique. The Ganges leaves the womb of the mountains only after reaching Haridwar. Therefore, it is not only from the point of view of spirituality but also from the point of view of tourism, it is a beautiful and delightful natural land whose past gives a glimpse of golden and supernatural. The beauty of its natural shades, the brightness-purity-pureness of the Ganges waters, the grandeur of the monastery temples, the akhadas, the vastness of the Himalayan mountains and the Shivalik ranges are absolutely necessary to be preserved in the same form without breaking it.
Almost every fifth year, a big budget is also approved to decorate Haridwar. Even private buildings are not painted so quickly. But Haridwar has not even got the shape of Chandigarh so far. Keeping in view the religious nature of Haridwar, saints and religious leaders should play an important role in its development.
The gardens of Haridwar should be shady and covered with fruit-bearing vines and decorated with flower beds. Haridwar should look like a big forest like a bouquet of flowers, in the middle of which the Ganges and its canals move forward to irrigate and purify. For the next 50 years, Haridwar should not develop like a metropolis but as a holy Vatican City. This effort should be of all of us.
