Petrol and diesel price in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru on November 25


Petrol and diesel prices remained stagnant again on Friday, 25 November 2022 for over six months now. On May 21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an excise duty cut on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre on diesel. The Maharashtra government announced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 per litre and Rs 3 per litre, respectively.
On August 24, the Meghalaya government increased the Value Added Tax (VAT), owing to which petrol price in Shillong now stands at Rs 96.83 per litre and diesel is priced at Rs 84.72 per litre. Petrol price in Delhi is Rs 96.72 per litre, while diesel price in Delhi stands at Rs 89.62 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 106.31 per litre and Rs 94.27 per litre, respectively.

Retail petrol and diesel prices differ from state to state, depending on various factors, such as Value-Added Tax, freight charges and local taxes. Public sector Oil Marketing Companies, such as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) update petrol and diesel rates daily at 6 AM, in line with international benchmark prices and foreign exchange rates.
