Royal Enfield 650 set to get a new rival? BSA 650 Scrambler concept breaks cover

British bike brand BSA took the wraps off a new 650cc scrambler-style motorcycle during the Motorcycle Live show in Birmingham recently. The new motorcycle that appears to be based on the Gold Star gets long travel suspension, knobby tyres, and a new paint job featuring #28 on its side, around a 652cc single-cylinder heart. The design and styling revolve around the bike’s off-road intent, with a wide handlebar, headlamp cover, and wire-spoke wheels.
It gets a larger front wheel with a single disc, dual-exit exhaust tailpipe, and dual shocks at the rear. So far, the concept is simply called Scrambler, as are a lot of scrambler motorcycles in the market, for example, the Ducati Scrambler, Yezdi Scrambler, and the Triumph scramblers go simple by Scrambler too. There are so far no details on the bike’s launch timeline or the price, so perhaps BSA has time to be able to come up with a name by then. Until then, it’s the BSA Scrambler.

The bike shares the engine with the Gold Star, however, the exhaust system is new with a wrapped header exiting the single-pot engine. Ergonomics appear to have changed as well with a raised handlebar and grippier footpegs, along with a flat bench-style seat, which looks good for two but the rear footpegs are missing (but then this is a concept bike).
There have so far no plans been announced for bringing BSA motorcycles to India. But if it were to launch here, it would rival the upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc scrambler. Classic Legends so far have the Jawa and Yezdi brands retailing motorcycles in India, and if BSA ends up in India, the company would need a rival against the likes of Interceptor 650 or the upcoming 650cc Royal Enfield motorcycles and that’s where Gold Star and the BSA Scrambler should come in handy.
