The worship performed on the day of Diwali is called Lakshmi Pujan. Today most people understand that Lakshmi means goddess of wealth. This has become a very narrow meaning of the word Lakshmi. In fact the meaning of this word is very wide. The word Lakshmi is derived from the Sanskrit root Laksh.
Laksh literally means to meditate, to aim, to observe carefully, etc. This means that when we do some work or sadhna with concentration, then the result we get is called Lakshmi.
Every act of our ancient sages was always aimed at auspiciousness and spiritual prosperity. The meaning of Lakshmi was to take life on the path of divinity through the harmony of the four dimensions of life, Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.
Our oldest book, Angveda also mentions Goddess Lakshmi, but there Lakshmi does not mean the goddess of wealth, but the goddess of auspiciousness and good fortune.
The utility of money is limited. You cannot get everything in this world with money. Neither money can buy you parents, nor friends, nor knowledge. There are many things that cannot be bought with money. But luckily you can get whatever you want.
In Atharvaveda also Lakshmi is described as a combination of auspiciousness, good fortune, wealth, prosperity, success and happiness.

Eight types of Lakshmi have been mentioned in the Puranas.
Adilakshmi,
Dhanyalakshmi,
Dhairyalakshmi,
Gajalakshmi,
Santalakshmi,
Vijayalakshmi,
Vidyalakshmi,
and Dhanalakshmi.
It is clear from this that the sphere of influence of Lakshmi is not limited to money only. The origin of Lakshmi is believed to be at the time of churning of the ocean. Mother Lakshmi is also the source of the different powers of different deities.
According to the Puranas, Goddess Lakshmi gave the boon of food to Agnidev, Varun Dev of a vast empire, Sarasvati for nourishment, Indra for strength, Brihaspati for erudition and so on. This proves that whoever is blessed by Mother Lakshmi, she gets various types of opulence. Mata Lakshmi holds a lotus in her hand. In the scriptures, lotus is considered a symbol of knowledge, self-realization and liberation.

Our philosophy teaches us to remain water-loving. It means keeping the mind detached even though living in the midst of all opulence. There are two yards of power on either side of the mother. The vehicle of Goddess Lakshmi is an owl, which is able to see well in the dark.

It means that when there is darkness of sorrow all around, then by the grace of Mother our vision remains right and we can find our way easily.

There is always a rain of money from the hands of Goddess Lakshmi, which is an indication that we have to collect not only money but also donate to the underprivileged as per their requirement. Mother Lakshmi has chosen Lord Vishnu as her husband who is the best.

Mother always stays at his feet. It is a sign of the fact that wealth and opulence always stay with the best men. poor men don’t get it
Even if it is achieved by chance, it does not last. In Kaliyuga, the abode of Lakshmi is said to be in women.

That is why it is said on the birth of a girl that Lakshmi ji is present, but scholars also say that. If we get disappointed on the birth of a girl, then Lakshmi returns in reverse. There is a house where women are respected. Mother Lakshmi has special grace and where women are disrespected, Lakshmi escapes from there.

It is necessary to respect the entire female caste for the blessings of Mother Lakshmi. Since Mother Lakshmi is the giver of all kinds of opulence, do not make the mistake of considering Goddess Lakshmi as the only goddess of wealth.
